From Students To Soldiers: Duty After School Movie Review
Duty After School is a South Korean series based on a webtoon by Ha Il-kwon with the same title. The series is set in high school students who are forced to become reserve soldiers. The enemies are alien monsters in the form of balls that float in the sky and have invaded the earth. Initially, the people of earth were quite frightened by the presence of creatures from nowhere. Until one day, one of the balls fell making the situation change. It became so urgent that high school students were trained to become reserve soldiers. The unique storyline even makes the audience curious about the continuation of the story of Platoon Leader Lee Choon Ho and the high school students he led to conquer these strange alien creatures from the sky. The cinematography of the Dragon Studio series never disappoints the audience. The quality of the monster CGI in this series deserves appreciation because it looks so real.
The concept of this drama story is also new because it presents smart monsters. It's able to attract attention and satisfy the audience. In addition, the characters of high school students who are portrayed are very relatable. Some are brave, leadership-minded, selfish, spoiled, unstable, hilarious, and even loyal friends. This character portrayal makes the audience feel pleasant while watching it because there's not much drama and does not seem contrived. These characters also add the audience's annoyance because of their behavior as unstable teenagers.
This series is often compared to another series titled All of Us Are Dead because it has almost the same theme, which is about a group of students who have to face unexpected situations at school. The difference is that Duty After School has alien monsters as enemies that they must destroy because it preys on humans. While All of Us Are Dead is about a zombie outbreak that spreads throughout the school and city. Duty After School is considered more exciting and tense than All of Us Are Dead because the monsters or alien creatures in it are considered more sinister. In addition, the series of scenes in this series are also able to make the audience laugh, sad, and panic. There are some comedy scenes that can break the tense atmosphere for a moment. In All of Us Are Dead, there are some scenes that should not be shown in a school teens series, such as romantic scenes that are considered unsuitable. Overall, I really like this series. This is suitable for Korean drama lovers, also mystery, school teens, and action genre lovers. I feel that there are many lessons about friendship here.
